Stephen Mims
Director
and screenwriter, Stephen Mims, screened a rough cut of his Kentucky
Fried Movie styled film "One Eye Peeled" at last
year's Spindletop Film Festival. This Austin based filmmaker shot,
edited and then screened a short film, "Lifetime Subscription,"
shot on digital video during the first day of the 2001 festival
without first meeting his cast and crew. Mims premiered his feature
film "The
Perfect Speciman", which he wrote and directed, at
South By Southwest.
Mims also teaches an advanced production course at Austin Film
Works, a private school he established. The Austin resident teaches
the first finer points of movie production by having students actually
make a full-length feature film. A former film-production professor
at the University of Texas, Mims quit his university job in 1993
to start Austin Film Works. Noted director and screenwriter Robert
Rodriguez studied under Mims.
