Lamar University is dedicated to assisting its students with scholarship needs. Scholarships are privately funded by generous donors and may be general, college-specific or department-specific.

Criteria
Academic achievement is usually the basis of scholarship criteria. Other criteria that may be considered are:
  • Grade point average and/or SAT scores
  • Class load and level
  • Major
  • Displayed leadership abilities, extra-curricular activities, etc.

Once your application is received, you will be considered for all Lamar University general scholarships. You need only submit one application to be considered for all general scholarships and many scholarships in individual majors. Priority is given to applications received by February 1 of each year.

Other Scholarship Opportunities
Many local civic organizations offer scholarship opportunities. They award the scholarships and send the money to Lamar University to be disbursed to the student's account. High school counselors should have a list of these outside scholarships.

Waiver of Non-resident Fees
If you are either a non-resident or a citizen of a country other than the United States, you may be exempt from the payment of nonresident tuition rates. To be eligible for this waiver, the you must receive at least $1,000 in competitive scholarships from Lamar University. A Lamar University Scholarship Committee must award the scholarship.
