The Development staff of Lamar University supports the university's instructional, research and service mission through the cultivation of relationships and the raising of funds for the benefit of the university. The staff provides giving opportunities and vehicles that give best advantage to the donor and the university. LU's Development staff works closely with the Lamar University Alumni Association and the Lamar University Foundation and maintains the university's alumni and donor database.

The Public Relations and Marketing staff of Lamar University supports the university through a comprehensive communications program that includes publications such as the award-winning Cardinal Cadence, media relations, marketing, the university website and special events. Through these, the staff seeks to foster positive relationships with individuals, groups and organizations thereby empowering the development and enrollment programs of the university. The efforts of Public Relations reaches students, as well as groups concerned with a particular issue, cause or crisis.

From its vantage point on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library, the University Reception Center, another component of the Advancement team, overlooks Lamar University and the city of Beaumont and is an ideal setting for campus and community events. The Reception Center is a wonderful facility for university meetings, receptions, dinners and seminars.

Also a part of the team that supports the university are Lamar University Foundation, LU Alumni Affairs and Advancement Services.
