Assistant Professor-University Archivist (#105730) – Library; Full-time; Salary: $40,000; Open until filled.
Duties: Plan and organize on-going work and new initiatives, establish procedures and recommend policies for department operation in cooperation with the library administration. Develop and maintain client-centered relationships with administration, faculty, students, and donors to determine archive needs and priorities and solicit appropriate materials. Appraise, select, review, organize, weed, process, and provide overall management and future development of university records in electronic and print formats, as well as manuscripts and special collections. Investigate possible sources of funding for the digitization of archival and special collections materials. Provide reference assistance for archival and special collections materials as needed. Develop and maintain an outreach program, including exhibits, publications, and programs appropriate to the collections. Consult with Cataloging and Systems Departments to ensure proper representation preservation and display of archival and special collection materials in the online catalog and on the Internet. Provide enhanced access, including finding aids, to archival and special collection materials and encourage their use by students, faculty, and other researchers. Establish and implement short and long-term objectives for the department in concern with library-wide goals and technological change. Develop and maintain manual of procedures for the department. Qualifications: ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science required. Prefer Certificate in Archival Studies (CAS). A second Master’s degree in an appropriate subject area is required for tenure and promotion. Two (2) years professional experience in an academic library archive or special collections area preferred. Knowledge of current archival and special collections trends and procedures which includes digitizing technologies and familiarity with best practices for digitization, metadata, and archival storage. Ability to apply knowledge of electronic and traditional library resources to appropriate university archives and unique special collections.
